If the computer never has been installed before:
- Plug in the PowerScan card. The Windows 95 will prompt for New Hardware found.
- Choose "Select from a list of alternate drivers" in New Hardware Found pop up. Click OK.
- IN Select Hardware Type, choose Ports (COM & LPT), click OK.
- Choose (Standard port types) and Communication Ports. Click OK.
The PowerScan card will be considered as the new COM port as it plugged in.
Remove previously installed PowerScan Hardware definition:
- In Control Panel, double click the System Property
- Find the device being assigned to PowerScan (either as a COM port, or as a Modem if it was set up incorrectly before)
- Make sure the PowerScan card is recognized as the device in (2).
- Highlight the device, press Delete key to delete the device
If the Windows 95 is OEM Release 2 (not the 950), then you have to do one more step. Go to the Windows\INF\Other directory. Find out the .INF file which has definition of PowerScan card as a device (you have to use an editor to view the contents of the INF file and to find out the PowerScan string). Delete this file. This will ensure your next insertion of the PowerScan card will have a brand new installation.
NOTE: If using any Communication Software to obtain data from the PowerScan card after it is installed, you have to use the following setting:
- 9600, n, 8, 1 for port setting
- No flow control
- No "Init String" as defined in most of the modem devices
How to find out the property used by the PowerScan card: click the PCMCIA card icon on the lower-right corner of the display.
